 Fly to Whitehorse, pickup your vehicle and spend a
night in Whitehorse, at the Westmark Whitehorse. Visit
the Information
Centre and some of the many museums to learn about the history
of the area. Head off on the Alaska Highway to Haines Junction, headquarters of Kluane
National Park, and spend the night. Be sure to take time to visit
the Visitor Reception Centre and learn about this World Heritage
Site of four interconnecting wilderness parks in Alaska, B.C. and
the Yukon. Then turn south on the Haines Highway past the southern
part of Kluane National Park and through Chilkat Pass in the St.
Elias Mountains before dropping down to Haines, Alaska; located
between
the Chilkat and Chilkoot Rivers on the Lynn Canal.

Spend the night in Haines at the Captain's Choice Motel, visit the Sheldon Jackson Museum and Cultural Center and perhaps try your hand
at fishing
in the rivers or ocean (be sure to get a license!) Then take the ferry on the one hour trip up the Lynn Canal to Skagway where you will spend
a night at the Westmark Inn. Explore the Gold Rush
history of this Alaskan port and perhaps take the Summit Excursion
on
the renowned historic White Pass and Yukon Route narrow-guage railroad.

South Klondike Highway |
Follow the Klondike Highway as it climbs almost straight up from
Alaska to the White Pass and cross into a corner of B.C. and
then the Yukon as you travel along the shores of beautiful lakes
before
reaching Carcross. Just north of Carcross is a small desert area
- stop to see this and then turn back to Carcross and take the
Tagish Road by the airport. This road cuts through a scenic area
of lakes
and mountains to the Alaska Highway. Just before you reach the
Highway you will turn south on the Atlin Road to find the "Switzerland
of the North", Atlin, B.C.
Atlin, British Columbia
Stay two nights at the Brewery Bay Chalet and explore the Gold
Rush history of this area including relics up Pine Creek and
in the local
museum. Then head back up to the Alaska Highway and north to
Whitehorse for a last night to shop, enjoy fine dining
and other attractions
before you return home.
