Imagine watching thousands of Sandhill Cranes fly overhead as they migrate to the Arctic! After arriving in Whitehorse you will pick up your rental vehicle for the spectacular 350KM drive to Faro. Enjoy the incredible scenic vistas and watch for local and migrating birds along the way as well as bigger wildlife. In Faro you will stay at the Faro Studio Hotel and can visit the lounge where "time runs backward". The Sandhill Cranes migrate along the Tintina trench and Faro is located on its edge above the Pelly River. You can also visit a site where you can see a Raven's nest, and the unique Fannin sheep winter on the slopes near town and can often be seen from one of the many viewing sites.

Don't forget to look for the aurora in the evenings - Faro is an area of frequent northern lights occurrence.  Take some time to explore this vibrant community in the heart of the Yukon, known as "Yukon's Best Kept Secret".  Other migrating birds frequent the area's ponds and the river banks, and there are trails in the area to explore the surrounding wilderness.  Then you will drive back to Whitehorse, again watching for migrating water birds on any open water. An overnight in Whitehorse is included at the beginning and end of your trip.  

NOTE:
Faro will be holding the Seventh Annual Crane and Sheep Viewing Festival May 7-9, 2010 celebrating the Sandhill Crane migration as well as the Fannin Sheep found only in this area.  It has been a great success previously - in one and a half days over 14,000 cranes flew overhead, up to 30 rams were sighted and a group of about 15 ewes just about to lamb.  For the bird watchers; besides the cranes; over 25 different species have been sighted including 13 different water birds and three young bald eagles.  There are interpretive programs, a wild meat community barbeque, local entertainment and a silent auction of local crafts.
